Our Teaching Faculty

The quality of any seminary program is directly related to its instructors and depends upon their fidelity to the Word of God. Our program is primarily overseen and taught by ordained ministers of the gospel and teachers who have taken vows of subscription to the Westminster Confession of Faith and are actively engaged in various pastoral, instructional, and literary efforts to advance the cause of Jesus Christ here and throughout the world. Below you will find extended biographical information for each of our instructors.

Jeff Black (M.Div.)

Jeff Black was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics in 1975. Jeff then pursued graduate studies in Solid State Physics at the University of Pittsburgh. Before completion of his Master's Degree work he entered Westminster Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Divinity Degree in 1979.

Since being ordained to the gospel ministry in 1980, Jeff has served churches in Illinois, Pittsburg, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. He currently pastors Providence Presbyterian Church (RPCUS) in Wytheville, Virginia. He is the host of a weekly radio broadcast known as, "The Edinburgh Inn," which is a ministry of Provident Reformed Presbyterian Church. Jeff also serves as the stated clerk of the Covenant Presbytery, RPCUS and is a speaker at various conferences. He is a contributor to "The New Southern Presbyterian Review." Jeff and his wife Vanessa have three children. Jeff teaches classes in Old and New Testament literature and theology, and hermeneutics.

Michael Butler (M.A.)

Michael Butler graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Fullerton with a B.A. in philosophy and history, and a M.A. in Philosophy from Claremont Graduate School. He has taught courses in philosophy, logic, history and religion at San Bernardino Valley College. Mike was Faculty-in-Residence at Bahnsen Theological Seminary for more than five years. He has written several articles in the areas of apologetics and philosophy including an exchange with atheist philosopher Michael Martin. Mike is a Ruling Elder in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and is Professor of Philosophy at Christ College. Mike lives in Lynchburg, Virginia with his wife of ten years, Julie, and his four children, Audrey, Gregory, Robbie, and Tommy. Michael teaches classes in apologetics and philosophy.

Don Crowe (M.Div., Ph.D. candidate)

Don Crowe attended Rose-Hulman Technical College and graduated with a B.A. degree from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. Don graduated from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, after studying under Dr. John H. Gerstner and Dr. Ford Lewis Battles, with an M.Div. degree. Don held pastorates in McKeesport and Washington, PA for about 15 years before leaving the United Presbyterian Church.

Since then he has served as headmaster of a Christian K-12 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, then as a teacher in Christian schools in PA and GA. He has been teaching biblical languages and church history at American University of Biblical Studies, in Decatur, GA since 1989, where he is also a Ph.D. candidate there. Don is an ordained teaching elder in the RPCUS and attends Grace Church in Canton with families from the Cherokee County mission recently started under the ministry of Chalcedon Presbyterian Church. Don teaches biblical languages in the CTS program.

Henry Johnson (M.Div.)

Henry Johnson graduated in 1976 from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, with a Bachelors of Music Degree. Henry married Susan Leigh Parton in May 1977. He graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1979 with a Masters of Divinity Degree. In 1979 he organized Trinity Presbyterian Church (RPCUS), where he continues as its pastor. Henry and his wife Susan have been blessed with eight children: Naomi, Samuel, Miriam, Joseph, Jacob, Micah, Isaac, and Abigail. Besides his duties as a husband, father, pastor, and presbyter, he co-hosts a twice-weekly radio program. Henry also speaks at various churches and seminars throughout the country and also writes articles for various Christian publications. He teaches systematic theology and Old Testament exposition.

Joseph C. Morecraft, III (M.Div., Th.D)

Joseph C. Morecraft, III, is a preacher of the gospel and a noted lecturer on contemporary political and historical trends in the United States and world at large. In 1986, he was a candidate for the US Congress in the 7th Congressional District of Georgia. Born on October 23, 1944, he is a native of Madison, West Virginia. He is married to the former Rebecca Belcher of Haysi, Virginia; they have four children.

Dr. Morecraft received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from King College in Bristol, Tennessee. In 1969, he was awarded a Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, and in 1982, was awarded a Doctor of Theology degree from Whitefield Theological Seminary in Lakeland, Florida.

Dr. Morecraft was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in the United States and has pastored churches in Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia. He is the founding pastor of Chalcedon Presbyterian Church (RPCUS) located near Atlanta, Georgia, where he has pastored for over thirty-three years, and in that position has assisted in the planting of other churches in the Atlanta area. He frequently preaches and lectures at seminars and conferences around the nation and abroad such as the Witherspoon Institute sponsored by Vision Forum.

Dr. Morecraft has addressed civic, medical, military, political, religious and educational groups in such places as Scotland, England, Germany, El Salvador, South Africa, Cypress, Ukraine, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile and Ecuador. He has authored numerous articles and spoken on national defense, international relations, constitutionalism and various economic and social issues.

He has had a book published in South Africa, entitled, Liberation Theology: Prelude to Revolution. He has also published a book entitled, With Liberty and Justice For All. He has contributed a chapter in A Comprehensive Faith: An International Festschrift for R.J. Rushdoony, a chapter in D. James Kennedy’s A Nation in Shame and a chapter in The Theology of Christian Resistance. His most recently published work, How God Wants Us to Worship Him, a guide to Biblical worship, offers a careful exegesis on worship.

Dr. Morecraft serves on the Advisory Board of the 1599 Geneva Bible Restoration Project and the Board of Reference of the Christian Film and Television Commission. He is a former chaplain of the Georgia Legislature and former chairman of the United States Constitution Party of Georgia

Dr. Morecraft teaches courses on the Westminster Confession of Faith, homiletics, biblical exposition, and theology.

John M. Otis (M.Div., M.CE)

John M. Otis graduated from East Tennessee State University (Johnson City, TN) in 1973 with a bachelor of science degree. He attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS from 1975–79, receiving a Masters of Divinity degree and a Masters of Christian Education degree.

In 1979, he was ordained as a minister of the gospel by Westminster Presbytery (PCA). Upon graduation from seminary, he went back to his alma mater and became campus pastor at East Tennessee State University under the auspices of Westminster Presbytery (PCA). He served in that capacity for two years until he received a call to be the pastor of Coeburn Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Coeburn, VA, where he served from 1982-87. From 1987 to 1995, John served as ruling elder in Chalcedon Presbyterian Church.

In 1995, John was made an evangelist of Covenant Presbytery (RPCUS) to minister in Corpus Christi, Texas. For a period of nine years, he ministered to this body of believers once a month. In January of 2005, the Lord opened the door for John and his wife to move permanently to Corpus Christi, TX. John is married to the former Christine Weagly. He and his wife have three sons. He is a contributing editor to the Counsel of Chalcedon and recently authored Danger in the Camp: An Analysis and Refutation of the Heresies of the Federal Vision. John teaches biblical exposition and theology classes.

Wayne Rogers (M.Div.)

Wayne Rogers received a BA from King College, Bristol, Tennessee, in 1968 and an M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1972. He is married to Judy Belcher Rogers and has three children. He was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1972, and since then has pastored churches in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Mississippi. He now pastors Providence Presbyterian Church (RPCUS) in Conyers, Georgia.

During college Wayne worked with the PEF as a Youth Evangelist. During Seminary he was a founding organizer of the Reformed Youth Movement, a ministry that sponsors a summer youth conference in the SE. He is a contributing writer to The Counsel of Chalcedon and The New Southern Presbyterian Review, of which he serves as the editor, and Table Talk. Wayne teaches pastoral theology, biblical counseling, theology, and biblical exposition.

Christopher B. Strevel (M.A.C.S.)

Christopher B. Strevel is an ordained minister in the Reformed Presbyterian Church in the United States (RPCUS). He has been the pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church (www.covenant-rpcus.org) in Buford, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, since 1994. He is a graduate of Bahnsen Theological Seminary, in Placentia, California. Chris has contributed to three books and written numerous magazine articles on topics ranging from apologetics to the family. He is currently completing expositions of the gospel of John and Acts, as well as a book on the family. In 1998, Rev. Strevel established Geneva Christian Academy (www.genacad.org), a Christian school for grades 6-12, that provides Christian students with a comprehensive education in which Christ and Scripture are presented as the necessary foundations for every academic subject and life pursuit. He is on the Board of Directors for Christ College. He currently resides in Suwanee, Georgia, with his wife of fifteen years, Elizabeth, and his three children, Christopher, Caroline, and Claire. Chris teaches biblical exposition, theology, and apologetics.
