Program Goals and Purpose
God calls men to pastor and teach his people from a variety of circumstances and walks of life. Each has the need for competent, careful, and comprehensive instruction in the doctrines and practices of the Christian faith. Christ Theological Seminary is dedicated to assisting men, congregations, and denominations in meeting this need:
- Through providing competent instruction by qualified pastors and teachers in the church – Each CTS instructor has demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in his respective subject area. Because all instructors share a common theological perspective, students may be certain to receive “the pure milk of the word that they may grow thereby,” and through their group train others in Christian discipleship.
- Through challenging students to understand and defend the faith “once for all given to the saints” – Academic programs are designed to ground students in the foundational biblical truths in each subject area, give him sufficient exposure and answers to the challenges made against biblical truth, and equip him with the tools and confidence to defend the truth of Scripture.
- Through assisting students that cannot relocate to a traditional seminary – The programs offered by CTS can be completed within the student’s current life environment, through reading, research, and writing, audio and visual media, and interaction with class instructors via e-mail or telephone.
- Through providing ongoing oversight and assistance in the completion of our academic programs – Successful distance learning programs depend upon dedicated, diligent students and active, involved instructors. Each CTS instructor is committed to assisting students in the timely and thorough completion of his theological education.
- Through providing biannual modular classes – These classes will meet normally in January and August, last one week, and suffice for a significant part of the required work for the class. Participation in these classes is required for RPCUS ministerial candidates and strongly encouraged for all other students. Participation will expedite completion of the program, develop lasting relationships with seminary instructors, and encourage fraternity among students.
- Through grounding all academic pursuits upon solid exegesis of the Bible, God’s inspired Word – The Bible is more than the theoretical foundation of our ministerial training program; every class is designed to increase the student’s exegetical, theological, and practical knowledge of Scripture, through solid, historically grounded and Christ-centered exposition, application of the same to Christian doctrine and practice, and defense of Scripture’s claims against its detractors.
